March Empties
Hi everyone, as you know I'm moving this weekend so I don't think I'll have time to film a March empties video.... so I just decided I would do a blog post instead. I've finished quite a lot of products since my last video. With things like foundation I usually have a few on the go at one time and they all seemed to finished at once this month! You'll find links to the products and a brief review below. Enjoy!
Makeup
Revlon Photoready Makeup in 002 Vanilla: I bought this foundation because I wanted to try something with a more luminescent effect. I had used other Revlon foundations before and thought they were great. This was a nice foundation. Very smooth and gave good coverage. The luminescence was just enough for me and wasn't too glittery. The only issue is it was a bit pricy for a drugstore foundation. I would need to have a think about buying this again.
Revlon Photoready Powder in Fair/Light 010: I bought this powder because I had been using the foundation for a while and was really liking it. It was a fair price and I really liked that the packaging had a wee mirror in it. It was great for setting my foundation and the colour was fine. Only downside was the powder has quite a lot of glitter in it so this is definitely not for you matte lovers out there!
Rimmel Wake Me Up Foundation in 010 Light Porcelain: I didn't actually realise how much I liked this foundation until I bought a matte Rimmel foundation when it was finished. It really does brighten up your skin and helps with colour correction. Its also great that there is a matching concealer so you know the colours will be the same. I don't like to waste products even if they're not great but I will definitely be going back to this for my everyday foundation.
MAC Studio Fix Foundation in NW13: This is my all time favourite foundation, forever and always. The shade is perfect, the colour correction is immense and the creamy formula is an absolute delight! I will buy this foundation until the day I die. I think I may have problems.
Skincare
Vitamin E Skin Care Nourishing Day Cream & Nourishing Night Cream: These are two separate products but they are so similar I thought I would just put them together. I absolutely love this range from Superdrug. When I first bought the day cream I was worried it would be too thick and my makeup wouldn't go on well on top of it. How wrong I was! It soaks into your skin really quickly and moisturises really well. This was particularly good when the weather was really cold because it protected my skin from the harsh temperatures. I've been using The Body Shop Vitamin E Moisturiser recently and there is no comparison. I will definitely be going back to this. In terms of the Night Cream, I think this might be my favourite product from this range. It doesn't have any particular scent to it which is good, its really thick and creamy and very gentle. Its so soothing on dry skin and I use this product almost every night. I'm already half way through another tub! Also, this range is relatively cheap and is amazing value given the quality of the products.
*I cannot for the life of me find these on the Superdrug website. Now I'm worried they don't sell it anymore...... Check your local store. They will be in the skin care section and all the Vitamin E products are usually together and next to the Naturally Radiant Range.*
The Body Shop 3-in-1 Deep Cleansing Mask: This was a great mask. Really thick and clay like, with the added benefit of exfoliaing beads. I used this about once a week, maybe more if I had a bad breakout. It did burn a little when you first put it on but I really noticed a difference in my skin after using it. I normally do a face mask once a week and exfoliate once a week but this let me do both at once. I'm using a different mask just now but I will probably buy this again in the future.
Garnier Miracle Eye Cream: I know everyone goes on about how amazing this product is but I can't say I was blown away. There was a tint to it which I didn't want or need. Although it moisturised my under eyes it did nothing for my lids or under my eyebrows which is where my skin is driest. Also, I can't say I noticed any difference in the lines under my eyes. When it comes to eye creams, I think I'll be sticking to high end.
Bobbi Brown Hydrating Eye Cream: This eye cream was amazing. So moisturising and refreshing, and it lasted ages! I bought it in August and it was after Christmas before I finished it. I think it was about £35 when I bought it but it was more than worth the money. I'm using a Kiehls eye cream just now but I would definitely go back to this again.
Haircare
Herbal Essences Bee Strong Strenthening Cream: I think I've talked this range TO DEATH but its only because I really think its amazing. I spray this strengthening cream in after I've washed my hair. I like to let it soak in for at least half an hour before I dry my hair. I finished this a couple of weeks ago and haven't had a chance to buy another. Then I realised I had a wee stash in my drawers. Result! I will definitely be buying this over and over again! (This on deal in Superdrug just now so if you like this too, save yourself some dosh! Also, they've changed the name slightly but its the same product.)
Herbal Essences Bee Strong Strengthening Intensive Mask: Again, I've talked about this product over and over again. It's brilliant for protecting your hair against heat damage and the scent is amazing. I don't think I have any more stashed away just now but I will definitely be restocking shortly!
Schwarzkopf got2be Beach Matte Mermaid Look Texturising Salt Spray: I starting using this product because I had run out of my Fudge salt spray and asked my sister to get me another while she was at the shops. They didn't have any in stock so she picked this up. I have super curly hair so I need plenty of control in my hair styling products. This didn't really give me that. If you have flat hair it will definitely give you texture, or if you have quite sleek hair it will hold your beachy waves in. It just wasn't strong enough for me. My hair tended to get quite frizzy and it didn't hold my natural curl. I won't be buying this again and I'm already back on my Fudge Salt Spray.
Tresemme Salon Silk Conditioner: The number one benefit of Tresemme hair products is that they come in GIANT tubs. I need a lot of conditioner because my hair is so thick and curly so that saves me a lot of hassle. This was a pretty good conditioner, I would probably buy it again in the future. The scent was nice and it did the job. Its not the best conditioner I've ever used but it was certainly worth the money.
*They don't seem to have this on the Superdrug website. I don't think they sell this range. I must have bought this from Sainsburys but I can't find it on their website either!*
Avon Naturals Hair Care Almond and Avocado Conditioning Balm: If I remember correctly, I only bought this because it was on sale. It was pretty good - not the best hair mask I've ever used but was more moisturising than regular conditioner. The scent wasn't particularly exciting so I doubt I'll buy it again especially since Avon do so many other great hair masks.
Avon Advanced Techniques Instand Repair with Keratin Power Technology: This is a brilliant hair mask. You don't get a lot in the tub but it works wonders. The keratin really controls frizz and makes your hair much smoother. I've also used the shampoo and conditioner and they are great as well. I've got another tub of this in my stash and I'm looking forward to cracking it open.
Bath, shower and Toiletries
The Body Shop Bath Sprinkles in Vanilla Brulee: Unfortunately this was a limited edition product for Christmas so you won't be able to get this anymore. I've spoken about the Vanilla Brulee range a few times now and I absolutely loved it. It was such a creamy vanilla and the scent isn't too strong. The bath sprinkles are basically like bath salts. I put them in when the water was running and the scent filled the room. No effects on my skin - I would have liked a nice moisturising effect but otherwise, great.
The Body Shop Vanilla Brulee Bath Jelly: Again, from the limited edition range. This was so weird. I expected it to be like the Honeymania Bath Melt but it really was like a jelly. It came with a wee wooden spatula for you to scoop it out with. Super cute. Again, the scent was lovely and it gave lovely bubbles in my bath. Lasted pretty long for the size of the tub too!
Avon Mr. Frosty Bubblebath in Spiced Apple: I think this was also a christmas range so I don't think you'll be able to buy this. This product was definitely aimed at children but I don't care! The bottle was shaped like a snowman and the scent was so fun! My bath smelled like Christmas and it was so different. I don't think I've ever had a bath product like it. The Avon bubblebath formula is amazing and this product was no different.
Fun from Lush: I got this as part of a gift set at Christmas and I was a bit dubious about it. I threw a chunk in my bath one night and it turns out its amazing! Mine was pink and had a lovely sweet scent, it gave my bath lots of nice bubbles and my skin felt quite moisturised after my bath. This would be great for kids because you can mould it into different shapes before you put it in the bath. I will probably buy this again, I'll maybe try the different colours as well!
Ice Blue soap from Lush: I bought this soap AAAAAAAGES ago and I only just got round to using it this month. It has a minty scent but its not very strong which was a bit disappointing. It also doesn't lather up that well. I know most soaps lather up so much because of all the chemicals and Lush soaps don't have these but I've used some of their other soaps which have lathered up much better. Don't think I';ll be buying this again and I think that might be a first for a Lush product!
Avobath Bath Bomb from Lush: This is one of my absolute favourite bath products. It makes your bath look a nuclear green colour which is hilarious and its super fun to watch it fizz about. The smell is really natural and fresh and it really moisturises your skin so well. I've had a few of these in the past and I'll definitely be buying it again!
Mandarin Spa Honeymilk Dream Moisturising Body Lotion: This was part of a christmas set and was just a small tub. I think this is a Sainsburys range of toiletries. The scent wasn't very good. Very heavily perfumed and smelled fake. Also, because it was a body lotion it just wasn't thick enough to moisturise my scaly legs! Doubt I'll go near this range again - the scent just wasn't for me.
The Body Shop Early Harvest Raspberry Body Butter: As with most Body Shop Body Butters, the formula is so thick and creamy and that really suits my skin. I felt this was even thicker and you kind of had to rub it between your hands to melt it a little before you could apply it. The scent was delicious but I love all things raspberry anyway. I think this was a special range so you can't get the body butter anymore but they still sell the shower gel and there are a few other things in the sale online.
The Body Shop Wild Argan Oil Body Butter: This was just a small tub from a Christmas set again. The scent wasn't my favourite - I prefer something fruity but it was super thick and super moisturising. The forumla was very oily once it went on so this would probably be an amazing product for someone with really dry skin. I've got a few other products from this range still to use but I doubt I'll buy it again.
Dove Go Fresh Pomegranate and Lemon Verbena Scent Anti-Perspirant: This is really the only deoderant I use because I love the scents, it works really well at stopping you sweating and I feel like the scent stays on all day. Even the normal cans last ages and you can get it in the compressed cans now. I'm using the cucumber scented one just now but I would definitely buy this scent again.
